It was a three-way meet in Abilene with the team competing individually against each of the other two. It didn’t matter as Incarnate Word won all but two of the 12 events on the way to victories over host McMurry and Texas / Permian Basin.
While the Cardinals set no new school records, in this their second meet of the year, they proved to be too much for the other teams.
In touching first in 10 events UIW passed around the glory with seven different swimmers winning first places. Junior Paulina Alexander was the leader with three first places—1,000-freestyle (11:01.85), 200 individual medley (2:14.93), and the 500-freestyle (5:23.15).
Two other Cardinals had two first places. Freshman Paige Chilcoat won the 50-freestyle (25.86) and swam second on the winning 200-freestyle relay team. Also, junior Lesley Murray won the 100-butterfly (1:00.06) and was the anchor on the winning 200-freestyle relay team.
Next up for the Cardinals is another three-way meet on November 6 and 7 in Houston. The opponents will be Rice and the University of New Orleans.
