A top 10 finish by freshman Marie Troufflard led Incarnate Word’s cross country team to a second place finish in the annual Heartland Conference championships.
The 6K race was run in Dallas this year and Troufflard turned in a time of 23:41.00 to finish in sixth position among the 61 individuals entered.
That finish led the Cardinals to 78 points and second behind host Dallas Baptist which compiled just 21 points based on having four of the top five individual runners. DBU was the defending champion.
A year ago the Cardinals as a team finished third.
Another UIW freshman, Alyson Gonzales, was 12th while junior Alma Santos ran in 15th position.
Next up for the Cardinals is the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships set for November 7 in Abilene.
