UIW GOES LOOKING FOR TITLE

As the Incarnate Word women’s soccer team competes in the NCAA regional tournament, the Cardinals volleyball team will be in Austin this weekend seeking its own post-season ticket.
The Heartland Conference is conducting its annual title tournament. The site is St. Edward’s in Austin. The Cardinals are seeded number two. The four-team competition winner gets an automatic bid to the South Regional tournament at a site to be determined.
To get it started, UIW will play number three-seed Dallas Baptist at 2 p.m. on Friday (November 13). At 5 p.m. the same day number one-seed and host St. Edward’s will play number four Texas / Permian Basin which is the defending champion.
The Cardinals finished the regular season at 24-8 which is the third highest win total in Incarnate Word volleyball history. Along the way, UIW split home and home matches with each of the other three tournament participants.
This is the 10th year for the Heartland to conduct a post-season tournament. Incarnate Word has been involved nine times including a title in 2007 and twice being runnerup including a year ago.
