The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) has named its swimmers and divers of the week and Incarnate Word swept the men’s side of the ledger.
Freshman Conrado Chede was the week’s best in swimming after his two wins and his two seconds at the three-way meet with UIW, Rice and the University of New Orleans.
In Houston, he won the 500-freestyle in 4:37.05 and in doing so handed teammate Aliaksandr Yatsko his first loss in his UIW career in this particular race—that includes two national titles. Chede also won the 1,000-freestyle in 9:35.72. He also was second to Yatsko in the 200-freestyle (1:44.50) and he anchored the Cardinals’ 400-freestyle relay team which finished fourth.
In the diving well, McDonald won once and was second once. His 271.80 points were good for first in the one-meter event. He returned later in the day in the three-meter event to finish second. In doing so he established a higher bar in the Incarnate Word record book with his 261.90 points.
UIW swims and dives as an affiliate member of the RMAC. The Cardinals won the 2009 conference championship and have been tabbed favorites to win again in 2010.
