CARDINALS SWEEP HEARTLAND WEEKLY HONORS

Over the final week of the Heartland Conference volleyball schedule Incarnate Word made a clean sweep of league honors as the Cardinals head for the post-season championship tournament.
For the period of November 2 to November 8, a time when UIW was undefeated senior middle Edie Weise was the hitter of the week, junior Spencer Ladd was the top libero and junior Sarah Nordman was named setter for the week.
The Cardinals were 2-0 in the seven-day time frame getting their season mark to 24-8 and 11-3 in league action. That gave UIW a second seed in the tournament set for November 13 and 14 in Austin. Incarnate Word will open against number three Dallas Baptist at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Weise led the team in kills in both matches averaging 13.0. Her hitting percentage was .345. She
Junior libero Spencer Ladd
also had one solo block and seven block assists. This is the third time this season the Luling product has won the weekly honor.
Ladd averaged 27.0 digs in the two matches and both times led all players. In a win over league leader St. Edward’s she had a match-high three service aces. Four times this fall Ladd, a San Antonio Madison graduate, has been the Heartland’s top libero.
Junior setter Sarah Nordman
Winning the weekly designation for the seventh time, Nordman was the top setter in both matches averaging 44.0 with a high 58 at St. Edward’s. She also averaged 4.5 kills and 4.5 digs on defense. She is a graduate of San Antonio MacArthur High School.
