Sophomore Joy Turner and freshman Melissa Ralston were most prominent when Incarnate Word’s swimming team competed at the Delta State Christmas Meet in Mississippi.
Those two Cardinals were parts of two record-setting relay teams and each posted a new UIW individual team record.
The two relay marks were both in the medley events. In the 200, Ralston swam second and Turner third as the Cardinals posted a 1:49.89. They were joined in the water by sophomore Melissa Corbett (leadoff) and senior Rachel Watson (anchor). Over in the 400, in the preliminaries, the new mark of 3:58.40 came from Turner leading off with Ralston second, junior Lesley Murray third and Watson anchoring.
Turner also swam second on UIW’s 200-freestyle relay team which finished fifth. Then, she moved to the 100-butterfly where in the preliminaries she posted a new UIW school mark of 57.45.
Ralston’s individual school mark came in the 100-breaststroke where she finished second in a time of 1:07.68.
Murray too posted a new UIW school mark. Her record came in the 200-butterfly and was 2:06.99.
