Incarnate Word sent three athletes to the recent NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships and that threesome made a rather large splash at the event in Houston.
Freshman Jessica Wilde gained an honorable mention as an All-American.
Not only did the three combine to produce 96 team points which put UIW in 16th place but they brought home eight places on the Division II All-American listing. In swimming and diving the NCAA designates the top eight finishers in a particular event as All-America while finishers nine through 16 are declared honorable mention All-America.
Sophomore Paulina Alexander made absolutely sure she would be an All-American by finishing no less than third in four different events. She was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, second in the 400-individual medley, second in the 500-free and finally third in the 1,650-free.
Then, junior Rachel Watson garnered three mentions, one All-American and two honorable mentions. Her top honor came when she was fourth in the 200-individual medley. Her ninth place in the 200-freestyle and her 14th finish in the 100-free gave her honorable mentions.
Freshman Jessica Wilde picked up the final UIW honor with her 15th place finish in the one-meter diving event. She is now an honorable mention All-American.
