MORE POINTS FOR UIW ON FINAL DAY
3/14/2009
Incarnate Word had two swimmers at the NCAA Division II National Championships and on the final day of action both put points on the Cardinals ledger.
As a result UIW finished 16th in the nation with a total of 96 points. Perennial powerhouse Drury won the women's title with 618 points.
Up first for Incarnate Word was sophomore Paulina Alexander. Her time of 16:46.40 in the grueling 1,650-meter endurance test was good for third place and 16 points.
Her partner, junior Rachel Watson, had one race on the final day. She swam the 100-freestyle in 52 second flat and picked up three points by finishing 14th.
The national championships were the capstone on a year which saw the Cardinals move to a new conference, the Rocky Mountain, and live up to pre-season predictions by capturing the league title.
