The University of the Incarnate Word men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Dustdevil Open in Laredo, Texas, at the start of this week to kick off the spring golf season.
Matt French shot a 222 overall for fifth place at the Dustdevil Open this week.
Incarnate Word shot rounds of 312, 297 and 313 for a total score of 922.
Abilene Christian won the event with 894.
The Cardinals finished as the top school from the Heartland Conference, shooting better than host Texas A&M International (972).
Individually, Matt French and Martin Jimenez finished in the top 10, with French shooting a 222 overall (78-70-74) for fifth place. Jimenez tied for tenth with a 227 (78-72-77).
The rest of the UIW squad finished in the top 30 of the meet. Will Short shot scores of 78-76-79 for a 233 and a tie at 14th; Dean Sartoris tied for 24th place with a score of 244 (79-79-86) and Jordan Lambkin came in tied for 28th with a 248 (80-85-83).
The Cardinals’ next tournament will be the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin on February 23rd and 24th.
