Matt French and Audrey Sitterly were voted as the best golfers in the conference for the week of February 15th through the 17th after both UIW athletes performed well in their first outings of the year in Laredo.
Sitterly, a sophomore from San Antonio, finished in second place with a two-round total of 170 at the Dustdevil Invitational. She shot an 81 in the first round and an 89 in the second.
For French, a senior from Castroville, his individual finish of fifth place at the 2009 Dustdevil Open helped his team to a fifth place finish in the final standings. He shot rounds of 78, 70 and 74 – his second round score tying the low-score for the round.
Both squads will be back in action on February 23 and 24, with the men traveling to Austin for the St. Edward’s Invitational at Austin Greyrock Golf Course. The women’s team, meanwhile, will be in San Antonio for the St. Mary’s Invitational at The Republic Golf Course.
