ST. EDWARD’S 7, INCARNATE WORD 2

A rapid start stood up Saturday afternoon as St. Edward’s came to San Antonio and won a men’s tennis match at Incarnate Word.

The Hilltoppers played like anything but a 2-8 squad, now 3-8, as they won all three doubles matches to take a commanding lead right off the first serve.

Playing catchup the Cardinals (10-5) managed a pair of singles wins at numbers one and three but that would be it for the
day as SEU ran out the other three singles for the final margin.

For UIW sophomore Max Moreau won the feature singles event by 6-4, 6-4 over Brett Powers. Freshman Alex Wieland gathered the other Cardinals point with his 6-0, 7-5 win over Bernie Lancaster.

Many observers predicted this would be a match between the two teams expected to battle it out at the end of April at the Heartland Conference’s annual championship tournament.
