UIW DID BETTER THAN LAST TIME

INCARNATE WORD 9, ST. MARY’S 0
The last time Incarnate Word and St. Mary’s met in men’s tennis the Cardinals won by a score of 8-1. This time, on Friday, UIW regained that one lost match in a 9-0 sweep of the Rattlers.
A pair of freshmen, David Ballinger at number four and Alex Wieland at number three won their singles matches to put the Cardinals over the top at five points to guarantee the victory. Earlier the Cardinals had captured all three doubles matches to start the day on the right foot.
With the win Incarnate Word goes to 9-3 while the Rattlers are now 3-2. The first meeting of the two Heartland Conference squads was exactly one month ago at St. Mary’s.
Next up for the Cardinals is a match against Tyler Junior College, a national power at that level. The doubles will begin at 10 a.m. at UIW’s Mabry Center on campus.
