Incarnate Word got its first dual-match win of the young season Saturday with a narrow 5-4 victory at Division III powerhouse Trinity in San Antonio.
Junior Jose Arizpe got the clinching point at number two singles.
Playing away from the friendly confines of the Mabry Center, the Cardinals got one point out of three in doubles and then won rather quickly at singles one when sophomore Max Moreau triumphed in two sets. Singles three was next as freshman Alex Wieland also won in straight sets. The fourth UIW point came from freshman David Ballinger who went three sets to win at number four.
The clincher was junior Jose Arizpe. It was a crisp three-setter with Arizpe on top in the third by 6-4. That gave the Cardinals an insurmountable five points and the win.
