Incarnate Word’s football Cardinals will have another first-time ever event this week when they gather on campus for a banquet celebrating the 2009 season.
The event begins at 6:45 p.m. on Friday (January 15) with the showing of a season highlight film. The site is the Rosenberg Sky Room on campus.
The banquet will commence at 7 p.m. with Cardinals radio voice Paul Alexander as the emcee. Among the speakers for the evening will be University Chancellor Sr. Helena Monohan and Coach Mike Santiago.
Another highlight of the evening will come with the presentation of game jerseys to the only three seniors on the team—wide receiver Todd Walker, defensive back Larry Cruz, and linebacker Daniel Soto.
Incarnate Word played its first football game ever back in August and in its inaugural year posted a remarkable 5-5 record. That mark included a 3-2 record in the sparkling new Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.
The Cardinals played as an NCAA Division II independent but that changes on July 1, 2010, when UIW moves into the Lone Star Conference.
