WOMEN SPLIT IN CALIFORNIA

Incarnate Word’s swimming Cardinals flew off to California for a three-way meet and in head-to-head competition against the other two schools UIW split.
Against fellow Rocky Mountain Conference foe Grand Canyon University Incarnate Word came away on top by a score of 157-120. At the same time, with home pool advantage, the University of California at San Diego outscored the Cardinals 229 to 74. UCSD also swamped Grand Canyon 229-54.
Julia Cardenas came away as a big UIW point-producer in her specialty, the freestyle. She swam to second place in both the 200-meter (1:58.34) and the 500-meter (5:17.18) events. She also swam second on the Incarnate Word 200-freestyle relay team which finished sixth (1:44.77).
Jillian Richard gave UIW its lone first place finish when she won the three-meter diving event with 230.02 points. Richard also finished second in the one-meter dive with 198.45 points.
Next up for the Cardinals is the UIW Invitational set for the Barshop Natatorium on January 29 and 30.
