Incarnate Word’s women swimmers are in Colorado for their second tour of the Rocky Mountain Conference championships and day one saw the Cardinals grab a team lead behind three record-setting performances.
In the competition in Arvada, Colo., hosted by Colorado Mines, the Cardinals rolled up 245 team points after six events and lead Minnesota State / Moorhead which had 217.5.
UIW right off the first starter's horn got 40 points when the 200-freestyle relay team won the event in a school record time of 1:36.78. The foursome of Tamiris Nascimento, Kayln Davidson, Joy Turner and Rachel Watson lopped a full two seconds off the previous Incarnate Word mark set a year ago at the RMAC championship.
Nascimento then came back in the 50-freestyle for another UIW victory in a school record time of 23.79. And she wasn’t done just yet. Four events later she anchored the Cardinals 400-medley relay team to another first place and the third school record of the day. The time was 3:53.38 with Nascimento swimming ahead of Watson, Melissa Ralston and Turner.
The RMAC championships continue through Saturday.
