Incarnate Word after day two of the Rocky Mountain Conference swimming and diving championship meet remains solidly in first place as the Cardinals seek to defend their 2009 title.
Eight events were completed in Arvada, Colo., and UIW picked up six golds beginning with Conrado Chede’s win in the 1,000-freestyle with a time of 9:33.09l.
In the next event Nikita Belousov came home first for the Cardinals with a winning time of 4:04.65 in the 400-individual medley. One event later, the 100-butterfly, UIW’s Daniel Murata was the winner in 49.86.
It became three in a row when Patrick Cardenas won the 200-freestyle in 1:44.30. Skip the next race and then Incarnate Word finished up the session with consecutive wins beginning with James Shake in the 100-backstroke with a time of 50.94. The final race of the night, the 800-freestyle relay went to Incarnate Word in a time of 6:58.16. The foursome was Cardenas, Aliaksandr Yatsko, Mark Rubin and Chede.
The RMAC meet concludes on Saturday. Incarnate Word is the defending team champion.
