Day two came and went in Colorado and Incarnate Word’s swimming Cardinals extended their lead in the Rocky Mountain Conference championship meet.
With eight more events completed UIW picked up five victories to end the second session with 670 points compared to 547.5 for current second place Minnesota State / Moorhead.
Among the five wins were a pair of Incarnate Word school records. The first came in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:47.51 breaking the “old” mark set last December in Mississippi. The foursome in order on the team were Rachel Watson, Nora Szilagyi, Joy Turner and Tamiris Nascimento.
Nascimento came back in the 100-breaststroke for another school mark. While she did not win the event her time of 1:07.24 lowered the UIW bar and she finished third.
Day two’s winners for Incarnate Word were Paulina Alexander in the 400-individual medley, Turner in the 100-butterfly and Julia Cardenas in the 200-freestyle.
The meet concludes on Saturday with another full slate of events. Incarnate Word is the defending champion.
