Incarnate Word competes as an associate member of the Rocky Mountain Conference in swimming and diving and for the second straight year the Cardinals are conference champions.
During the three-day league meet in Arvada, Colo., the Cardinals piled up 896 team points to distance the field. Minnesota State / Moorhead finished second with 768.5 points.
At the end of the competition the RMAC handed out six individual awards and UIW returned to San Antonio with half of those honors.
Tamiris Nascimento was dominant in capturing the conference swimmer of the meet award. She entered three individual events and won two of those--50-freestyle, 100-free. She also was on four winning relay teams--200 and 400-freestyle, 200 and 400-medley.
Julia Cardenas is the RMAC Freshman Swimmer of the Year.
Julia Cardenas was named freshman of the year for her performances throughout the 2009-2010 schedule. At the championship meet she had three first place finishes--200-freestyle and the 400 and 800-freestyle relays.
The third and final individual honor came the way of UIW's Phillip Davis who was named coach of the year.
