It was the University of Houston All-Comers Indoor Meet and Incarnate Word figured prominently in the final results.
A week earlier on the same track junior Sebastien Jaraba-Heffner won the 800-meters at the U of H Invitational in a school record time of 1:55.26. This time he won the event again but he did not lower the school mark. Instead, his winning time of 1:55.32 is now second on the all-time UIW list.
Jaraba-Heffner six events later joined with freshman Hunter Gill, junior George Alicea and sophomore Chris Flores to win the distance medley relay with a time of 10:38.12. That time did not surpass the school mark of 10:20.43 set a week earlier in Houston.
Outside of those two victories for the Cardinals, there were three school marks set.
Gill got it started with a 4:32.52 in the one mile run for a UIW mark. Then, the 4x400 relay team of Christian Alicea, Corey McDonnough, Cody Hoover and George Alicea ran a 3:25.49 to finish seventh and lower the Incarnate Word mark.
Senior Shayn Weidner has had an interesting two weeks. A year ago in Houston he set the UIW mark of 9:03.34 in the 3,000-meters. That mark fell to Gill last week when he ran a 8:59.78. Apparently Weidner had seen enough as this time he ran a 8:53.96 to take back his Incarnate Word record. He was seventh in the event.
Next up for the Cardinals is the outdoor season beginning with the first-ever UIW Invitational set for February 27 at Benson Stadium on campus.
