Incarnate Word’s swimming and diving women are among the leaders following day one at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Ohio.
At the end of the initial day of events the Cardinals had compiled 40 teams points and that was good for an eighth place tie with Southern Connecticut State. Drury was the leader with 156 points.
The Cardinals posted a pair of school records in the events where UIW compiled points. Freshman Tamiris Nascimento got it started for Incarnate Word with her 23.39 time in the 50-meter freestyle. That was good for fifth place.
Next up was the UIW 200-medley relay team which finished sixth in a school record time of 1:44.83. That foursome included Rachel Watson, Nora Szilagyi, Joy Turner and Nascimento.
In the other final event of the first day Paulina Alexander of Incarnate Word swam 12th in the 1,000-freestyle with a time of 10:32.27.
The meet continues through Saturday in Canton, Ohio.
