Incarnate Word’s men’s swimming Cardinals remain within striking distance of the leader after day two of the NCAA Division II National Championships.
On the second day of four in Canton, Ohio, UIW had compiled 199 team points thanks in large part to the day two efforts of Aliaksandr Yatsko. The Cardinals’ 199 were second to Drury’s 264 while Grand Valley State moved into third with 162.
Yatsko was in three events and he placed in all three. It began with the 400-IM where his time of 3:54.27 was good for third. Next he hit the water in the 200-freestyle and this time he finished fifth with a time of 1:39.77. Lastly, he anchored the UIW 400-medley relay team to a fourth position in a time of 3:19.63. Swimming ahead of him were James Shake, Blake McKay and Daniel Murata.
Murata earlier had finished third in the 100-butterfly with a time of 48.81. The other top Incarnate Word point-producer in the session was diver Justin McDonald who racked up 476.05 points to finish fifth in the one-meter.
The 200-freestyle relay team got the day started with a ninth place finish in a time of 1:23.12. The foursome was Murata, Luke Bernhard, Patrick Cardenas and Damontre Pamilton.
The national championships continue through Saturday.
