There were five events on the final day of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championships and a second place in one of those put Incarnate Word into 11th place to stay.
The Cardinals amassed 111 points over the four days in Canton, Ohio, for their best finish in school history. A year ago UIW ended up 16th in the final count. Drury easily outdistanced the field with its 657 points. Wayne State was second with 531.
That second place for Incarnate Word came in the 100-freestyle. With a time of 49.94 Tamiris Nascimento gave UIW its final position.
These steps up the national ladder come on the heels of Incarnate Word earlier capturing its second consecutive Rocky Mountain Conference title. This 11th place finish is the best in UIW history.
