Fifteen sessions spread over four weeks culminating with the second Red-Black Spring Game will comprise Incarnate Word’s football spring schedule.
Coach Mike Santiago said the first session is set for Thursday, March 25, at Benson Stadium. All practices and the game will be at Benson. All the daytime events are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. Santiago also said scrimmages will be slated during the four weeks with those dates and times to be announced.
The final game will kickoff at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals have a spring roster of 76 players. A large majority of those were part of the 2009 inaugural season at UIW when the Cardinals posted a 5-5 record. Incarnate Word played last fall as an NCAA Division II independent.
For the upcoming 2010 season UIW will be a member of the Lone Star Conference and will play in that league’s South Division. Arguably one of the nation’s toughest leagues, the Lone Star South last fall sent four teams to the playoffs and a fifth south team played in a bowl game.
UIW’s 2010 schedule has 11 games scheduled, 10 in the Lone Star. The slate includes six at Benson Stadium and five on the road. The first home game is August 28 against Langston State. Central Oklahoma, Texas A&M / Kingsville, Abilene Christian and Texas A&M / Commerce also will play in San Antonio. West Texas A&M on October 30 is UIW homecoming.
