Incarnate Word’s men’s tennis team won its fifth match in a row Thursday afternoon with a 5-4 victory over visiting Washburn University out of Kansas.
The 5-4 decision extended the Cardinals’ recent run getting UIW to 9-3 for the year while the Icabods dropped to 6-5 after they had won four in a row.
The fifth and deciding point was at number one singles where UIW’s Francesco Segura outlasted WU’s Brandon Joost by a count of 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.
In securing the match Incarnate Word got wins at two and three doubles before Jose Arizpe won at second singles and Max Moreau was victorious at number three singles. Both doubles, serving notice about the match as a whole, were tense affairs with the Cardinals winning both by 9-8 counts.
