Incarnate Word’s women’s tennis team won all three doubles matches to jump on top early and then almost ran the table in an 8-1 win Thursday afternoon over the Washburn University Lady Blues.
After the doubles sweep the Cardinals got point number four from Gretchen Trautmann at number three singles before Erica Engberg closed it out with the fifth and winning point at number four singles.
With the win, their third in a row, the Cardinals go to 9-4 on the year. Washburn is now 4-5.
All of the singles matches were straight sets with Engberg’s deciding win at 6-3, 6-1. The closest Washburn got, other than the lone point at number one singles, was in doubles number two where Engberg and Alex Adams won narrowly, 9-8.
