Freshman weight man Zach Zellars came home from the Cactus Cup track and field meet in Kingsville as a double winner for Incarnate Word and with one new school record.
Zach Zellars got two wins and two records in Kingsville.
The Cardinals had five first places at the meet hosted by Texas A&M / Kingsville with Zellars leading the way. He heaved the shot put 50-06.00 feet to win and that broke his own UIW mark. He then came back in the discus with a throw of 142.08 for his second victory of the day.
Curtis Davis broke the other UIW school record with his performance of 43.01.75 in the triple jump. That effort was good for fifth position in the standings.
Two other Incarnate Word individuals won their events in Kingsville. Corey McDonnough crossed the line first in the 400-meters with a time of 50.62 while Sebastien Jaraba-Heffner won the 800-meters with a time of 1:59.52.
A Cardinals foursome of Christian Alicea, George Alicea, Cody Hoover and Taylor Echevarria got together to win the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:24.60.
As a team UIW was third with 113 points behind Texas A&M / Kingsville’s winning 192 and Division I Texas A&M / Corpus Christi as runnerup with 181.
