The University of the Incarnate Word women’s golf team made program history this week, finishing second at the 2010 Heartland Conference Women’s Golf Championships in Edmond, Oklahoma, this week.
St. Edward’s University finished first overall with a two-round total of 592 (297-295), while UIW shot a 620 (309-311) for second and Newman University wasn’t far behind at 624 (321-303) for third.
The second place finish is the best finish for the Cardinal women since joining the Heartland Conference, bettering the 3rd place finish of 2004.
Individually, every Cardinal player finished in the top 25, and four of the five in the top 15.
In eighth place, freshman Joanna De Sa Pereira (73-79) and teammate Jessica Cornish (74-78) both shot 152 for a tie.
Meanwhile, Sasha Kiger (82-76) and Audrey Sitterly (80-78) both shot 158 for a tie for 11th place.
Finally, Emily Carruba shot an 85 and an 80 for a 165 that put her alone in 24th place.
