One of the oldest records in the Incarnate Word track and field book was eradicated over the weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin.
Back in 2002 a UIW foursome turned in a 3:52.56 in the sprint medley relay event. Eight years later a Cardinals group of George Alicea, Christian Alicea, Corey McDonnough and Sebastien Jaraba-Heffner not only got under that time but they obliterated it.
Running in the college division of the Relays, this group ran the pair of 200s, the 400 and the 800 in 3:26.19, lowering the previous mark by 26.37 seconds.
Taylor Echevarria lowered his own mark in the 400-hurdles.
Another school mark came down in Austin. Taylor Echevarria went over the 400-meter hurdles in 56.55 to finish eighth. That mark eclipsed his own record of 57.62 set some five weeks ago at the UIW Invitational.
The other UIW entry was Adan Narvaez in the 100-meters. He ran a 11.24 in the preliminaries but did not advance to the finals.
To gain entry in the Texas Relays competitors must meet certain qualifying standards.
Next up for the entire UIW team is the Michael Johnson Classic in Waco on April 17.
