Incarnate Word sent runners in four events to the Texas Relays in Austin over the weekend and two of those came home with new school records.
Just to get into the Relays competitors must meet qualifying standards. This year, competing in the college division, UIW had qualifying times in five events including two individuals in the 100 meters. The Cardinals 4x100 relay team made the cut but an injury prevented the foursome from competing.
The first school mark to fall came in the 100-meter hurdles where in the preliminaries Lilya Piskunova crossed the line in 15.28 tying her own mark from a month earlier. That time however did not move her into the next round of competition.
Lauren Pratt lowered the UIW record in the 100-meters.
Lauren Pratt got the second UIW mark in the 100 meters where she finished in 12.12 in the preliminaries. While she did not advance she lowered the Incarnate Word mark from the 12.20 set by Antoinette Denson in April a year ago.
Other UIW entries in Austin were Alyson Gonzales in the 5,000 meters. She had a 20:15.56 in the finals. Also, Dakota Dougherty put up a 1:10.08 in the preliminary 400-meter hurdles.
