Incarnate Word’s women’s tennis team has reached the finals of the South Central Regional championship tournament and odds are the Cardinals will be facing top-seed and host Abilene Christian.
To get to the Friday finals UIW had to get by Central Oklahoma and it did by a 5-3 count. In the meantime ACU was up 3-0 on Washburn after the doubles matches making it highly UIW and ACU will be meeting in the finals.
In the meantime the Cardinals won two of the three doubles against UCO before getting singles win down the line to close the deal. Gretchen Trautmann won at three singles in a dramatic three-setter before Alex Adams and Karen Rodriguez won at five and six respectively in straight sets.
The win got the Cardinals to 16-4 for the year as they seek their second ever trip to the round of 16. That national tournament is set for May 12-15 in Altamonte, Fla. Incarnate Word got to the championships in 2008 as South Central Regional champions.
