They are on the verge of a new swimming and diving season at Incarnate Word yet the honors continue to come in for last year’s squad.
The latest is Academic All-America for the entire Cardinals’ team. As a unit they posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.26 and that was 18th highest in the nation for Division II.
The recognition came from the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The minimum GPA for any team was 3.00. Thirty-six schools across the nation qualified.
Four UIW swimmers were included on the CSCAA Academic All-America listing for individuals.
The Cardinals honored were junior Lesley Murray (3.98, kinesiology), Julia Cardenas (3.72, biology), Paulina Alexander (3.68, mathematics), and Joy Turner (3.54, biology).
To qualify for the academic honor swimmers must have posted a GPA of 3.30 or better and must have posted event times giving them an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II national championship meet.
