University of the Incarnate Word

For the time period November 2 through November 7 Sarah Hernandez and Diego McClain were voted top athletes by members of the Incarnate Word athletic department.

A weekly vote is taken to name the top performers on the field or court or pool and the winners then become eligible for UIW athletes of the year in May.

In the week’s two women’s soccer games, UIW scored two goals.  Hernandez had the game-winner in the 1-0 win over St. Edward’s which propelled UIW into first place in the Heartland.  Then, in the 1-0 win over St. Mary’s, she had the assist on the game’s only goal. 

McClain, a defensive tackle, had two tackles in the game against Southern Arkansas.  He had one forced fumble.  He then provided the crowd’s favorite moment when he intercepted a pass and returned it 83 yards for his first career touchdown.  That score narrowed the count to 24-22 which was the final outcome.

Both Hernandez and McClain are the weekly winners for the first time this year.
