Welcome to the University of the Incarnate Word and to the Athletic Training Department website. The Athletic Training Department is committed to providing the highest standard of sports medicine care to all UIW student-athletes. This care includes prevention, education, evaluation, recognition, and management including treatment and rehabilitation for all student-athlete injuries and illnesses.
UIW employs three experienced athletic trainers, all nationally certified by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers and all licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Services. The athletic trainers work under the direction of team physicians from Sports Medicine Associates of San Antonio. All athletic trainers and team physicians have years of experience in working with athletes and injuries. Since the athletic training staff is responsible for the care, prevention, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries as well as taping, emergency care, and coverage of 19 intercollegiate athletic programs at UIW, rarely will you will find the UIW staff idle.
There are two athletic training facilities located on campus; the main athletic training room is in the Barshop Natatorium while the football athletic training room in the Benson Fieldhouse. There is a satellite athletic training room located in the McDermott Center for the UIW indoor sports teams. All athletic training rooms are equipped with the latest therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation equipment allowing for the best possible care for student-athletes.
The Athletic Training Department is associated with the UIW Athletic Training Education Program in order to offer athletic training students an opportunity to work with some of the best NCAA Division II student-athletes in the country.
